2006-P Benjamin Franklin Founding Father Proof Silver Dollar
The 2006-P Benjamin Franklin Founding Father Proof Silver Dollar was issued by the US Mint to celebrate the 300th anniversary of the birth of Benjamin Franklin.

Also known as a scientist and inventor, Franklin is probably best remembered as an elder statesman and a founding father of the United States of America. He is the only individual to have signed four of the major documents relevant to the creation of the new nation – the Declaration of Independence, the United States Constitution, the Treaty of Paris and the Treaty of Alliance, Amity and Commerce where the country of France first recognized the new country.
The Franklin Founding Father coin is struck from 90% silver to either this proof or an uncirculated condition.

A total of six products were released by the US Mint in 2006 relating to Benjamin Franklin. Those six were:

A surcharge was added to the sale of each coin by the US Mint with the raised funds being forwarded to the Franklin Institute for purposes of the Benjamin Franklin Tercentenary Commission.

Struck from 90% silver, each Franklin Silver Dollar has a diameter of 1.5 inches.
Release Date
The US Mint released the Proof Franklin Founding Father Coin on the 300th anniversary of his birth – January 17, 2006.

The initial price charged for the Franklin Founding Father Proof Coin was $35.00.
U.S. Mint Production Facility
Each Franklin Silver Dollar was struck at the US Mint’s facility in Philadelphia and show the ‘P’ mintmark.
Designer & Sculptor
A portrait of Benjamin Franklin along with a reproduction of his signature are found on the obverse (heads side) of the coin. The design was the work of Don Everhart.
The reverse (tails side) features a reproduction of the 1776 Continental Dollar with modern lettering around the rim. It was designed by Donna Weaver.
