Released by the US Mint on October 15, 2009, demand for the special set with a mintage of only 50,000 was so high that the Mint experienced ordering system issues. In the first five hours, a reported 29,919 of the sets had been sold.

By 6:00 PM the next day, the entire mintage had been accounted for and the Mint declared a sell-out asking any additional customer orders to be placed on a waiting list.

Issue Information

All five coins in the set are struck to proof quality with the Silver Dollar composed of 90% silver and 10% copper. Aside from the coins, the set also includes a reproduction of the Gettysburg Address, an image of Lincoln and his signature as well as a Certificate of Authenticity.

U.S. Mint Production Facility

The Commemorative Silver Dollar was struck to proof quality at the US Mint’s facility in Philadelphia. The four Lincoln Cents were struck at the US Mint’s facility in San Francisco.

Designer & Sculptor / Engraver

The obverse (heads side) of the silver dollar was designed by Justin Kunz and engraved by Don Everhart to show a portrait of Abraham Lincoln. The reverse (tails side) features the last 43 words of Lincoln’s famous Gettysburg Address and was designed and engraved by United States Mint sculptor-engraver Phebe Hemphill.

The obverse of the Lincoln Cents all feature a portrait of Lincoln originally completed by Victor David Brenner for the 1909 Lincoln Cent. The reverse of the Cents were completed by the following artists:

  • Birthplace Cent – Designed by United States Mint Artistic Infusion Program Master Designer Richard Masters and sculpted by United States Mint Sculptor-Engraver Jim Licaretz
  • Formative Years Cent – Designed and sculpted by United States Mint Sculptor-Engraver Charles Vickers.
  • Professional Life Cent – Designed by United States Mint Artistic Infusion Program Master Designer Joel Iskowitz and sculpted by United States Mint Sculptor-Engraver Don Everhart.
  • Presidency Cent – Designed by United States Mint Artistic Infusion Program Master Designer Susan Gamble and sculpted by United States Sculptor-Engraver Joseph Menna.
