The two rolls of the set will each contain a total of 40 quarter dollars with one roll representing strikes from the US Mint’s facility in Denver and one roll representing strikes from the US Mint’s facility in Philadelphia. Each roll is wrapped in special Mint wrapping with the roll’s contents imprinted on it.

Coins in the set feature a design on their reverse emblematic of Vicksburg National Military Park. The park itself was created to remember and honor the Battle of Vicksburg and the greater Vicksburg Campaign during the American Civil War.

2011 America the Beautiful Quarters

The US Mint is scheduled to release five America the Beautiful Quarters annually. Those slated for 2011 include:

  • 2011 Gettysburg National Military Park Quarter representing Pennsylvania
  • 2011 Glacier National Park Quarter representing Montana
  • 2011 Olympic National Park Quarter representing Washington
  • 2011 Vicksburg National Military Park Quarter representing Mississippi
  • 2011 Chickasaw National Recreation Area Quarter representing Oklahoma

100-coin bags containing circulation quality strikes may also be released by the US Mint along with these two-roll sets. The bags contain the buyers choice of quarters struck at the Denver Mint or the Philadelphia Mint.

Issue Information

The rolls are each wrapped in special mint wrapping showing the face value of the roll – $10. Also imprinted on the roll is the specific coin contained within (Vicksburg National Military Park Quarters) and the mint of origin (‘D’ for Denver or ‘P’ for Philadelphia).

A release date for the Vicksburg Quarter Two-Roll Sets from the US Mint is listed as August 29, 2011.

No price has been announced by the US Mint, but it has sold previous sets for $35.95.

U.S. Mint Production Facility

Both facilities responsible for striking the circulation coinage of the United States are represented in this set. One roll contains strikes from the US Mint’s facility in Denver and one roll contains strikes from the US Mint’s facility in Philadelphia.

Designer & Sculptor / Engraver

The obverse (heads side) of all of the America the Beautiful Quarter Dollars feature a portrait of the first President of the United States, George Washington. It is based on the original work of John Flanagan whose portrait of Washington first appeared on the quarters in 1932.

Thomas Cleveland designed the reverse to show the Civil War era gunboat USS Cairo as it would have appeared steaming on the Yazoo River. It was sculpted by Joseph Menna.
