The Proof Platinum Eagles also mark the third year of the US Mint’s six-year series of unique reverse designs which are to be emblematic of the six principles found in the preamble of the United States Constitution. The design for the reverse of the 2011 coin will feature "To Insure Domestic Tranquility" as its theme.

Each one ounce platinum proof coin is struck from 99.95% platinum to a diameter of 1.287 inches.

Complete Principles of the Preamble Series

The US Mint started creating the reverse (tails side) of the Platinum Proof Coin to honor the six principles found in the preamble of the US Constitution starting in 2009. The six principles in their correct release order are shown below:

  • 2009-W To Form a More Perfect Union
  • 2010-W To Establish Justice
  • 2011-W To Insure Domestic Tranquility
  • 2012-W To Provide for the Common Defence
  • 2013-W To Promote the General Welfare
  • 2014-W To Secure the Blessings of Liberty to Ourselves and our Posterity

These themes will be used on the reverse of the Platinum Proof Eagles while the image of a Statue of Liberty will be used on the obverse.
