These strikes honor El Yunque National Forest, which is located in the United States Territory of Puerto Rico. Its area is considered to be one of the earliest natural preserves in the Western hemisphere as King Alfonso XII of Spain ordered its protection in 1876 when Puerto Rico was still under Spanish control. The United States government continued El Yunque’s protected status when it assumed control of the island in 1898.

Each of these bags will contain 100 circulation quality strikes of the El Yunque National Forest Quarter, with the buyer having the choice of coins struck at either the US Mint’s facility in Denver or the US Mint’s facility in Philadelphia.
