Designer & Sculptor
John Flanagan’s portrait of George Washington is featured on the obverse of all of the America the Beautiful Coins including the quarter dollars and the bullion strikes. It is the same image of Washington that has been used on the quarter dollars since 1932 (in one form or another).
The reverse contains a design originally created for the associated quarter dollar series. The US Mint describes that related quarter design with:
"The reverse… depicts a Coqui tree frog sitting on a leaf and a Puerto Rican parrot behind an epiphyte plant with tropical flora in the background. Inscriptions are EL YUNQUE, PUERTO RICO, 2012 and E PLURIBUS UNUM. The reverse was designed by United States Mint Artistic Infusion Program (AIP) Master Designer Gary Whitley and sculpted by United States Mint Sculptor-Engraver Michael Gaudioso."
