Hawaii Volcanoes National Park was established in 1916 and preserves and protects an area around the still active volcanoes on the big island of Hawaii. Along with those volcanoes, the terrain within the over 500 square miles of the park also includes lush tropical rain forests and arid deserts.

The Mint wraps each roll of the set in special mint wrapping indicating its face value, contents (Hawaii Volcanoes Quarters) and which minting facility struck them. One roll will contain 40 circulation quality quarters struck at the US Mint’s facility in Denver and one roll will contain 40 circulation quality quarters struck at the US Mint’s facility in Philadelphia.

2012 America the Beautiful Quarters

The Mint issues the America the Beautiful Quarters at the rate of five per year. Those scheduled to be released in 2012 are:

  • 2012 El Yunque National Forest Quarter representing Puerto Rico
  • 2012 Chaco Culture National Historical Park Quarter representing New Mexico
  • 2012 Acadia National Park Quarter representing Maine
  • 2012 Hawaii Volcanoes National Park Quarter representing Hawaii
  • 2012 Denali National Park Quarter representing Alaska

The Mint typically includes these strikes in several product options aside from these rolls. This includes bags of the strikes, US Mint uncirculated sets and proof sets.

U.S. Mint Production Facility

One roll will contain circulation quality strikes of Hawaii Volcanoes Coins from the US Mint’s facility in Denver and one will contain strikes from the US Mint’s facility in Philadelphia.

Designer & Sculptor / Engraver

Each quarter dollar contains a portrait of the first President of the United States, George Washington, on their obverse (heads side). The portrait was originally designed by John Flanagan for the 1932 circulating quarter dollar.

The reverse (tails side) of the Hawaii Volcanoes coin will showcase a portion of the national park.
