Dating back to the 1700′s, Fort McHenry was established as a national park in 1925. It was re-designated to its current status Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine in 1939 , but owes its place in history mostly to events surrounding the War of 1812. It was while watching those in the fort defending the Baltimore Harbor of Maryland against the British Navy that Francis Scott Key wrote the poem "The Star-Spangled Banner" which would eventually become the national anthem of the United States.

The US Mint places 100 circulation quality strikes of the Fort McHenry Quarter in each bag. Buyers will have the choice of quarters from the US Mint’s facility in Philadelphia or from the US Mint’s facility in Denver.
