Each Fort McHenry Quarter in the set honors Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine which is located in the state of Maryland. The fort can trace its roots back to the 1700′s, but was made famous in the War of 1812 when it successfully defended the Baltimore Harbor from the British Navy. While watching that defense, Francis Scott Key wrote the poem "The Star-Spangled Banner" which would eventually become the national anthem of the United States.

Each roll is wrapped in special mint wrapping. That wrap indicates the specific contents of Fort McHenry Quarters as well as the face value of $10 and the initial of the Mint responsible for striking the quarters within (P for Philadelphia or D for Denver).
