Great Sand Dunes was originally established in 1932 as a national monument. However, after additional land was added in the in the early twenty-first century, Congress changed its designation to that of a national park. The park preserves the tallest sand dunes found in North America which rise an estimated 750 feet from their base in the valley below.

100 circulation quality quarters from either the US Mint’s facility in Denver or the US Mint’s facility in Philadelphia will be packaged in each bag. Buyers will have the choice of which facility they would like their strikes to be from.

2014 America the Beautiful Quarters

A total of five America the Beautiful Quarters will be issued by the US Mint in 2014:

  • 2014 Great Smoky Mountains America the Beautiful Quarter representing Tennessee
  • 2014 Shenandoah America the Beautiful Quarter representing Virginia
  • 2014 Arches America the Beautiful Quarter representing Utah
  • 2014 Great Sand Dunes America the Beautiful Quarter representing Colorado
  • 2014 Everglades America the Beautiful Quarter representing Florida

A label indicating the bags specific contents of Great Sand Dunes National Park Quarters as well as which minting facility they were struck at is sewn into the closing stitches of each bag.

The Great Sand Dunes National Park Quarters will represent the twenty-fourth strike of the program which debuted in 2010.

Great Sand Dunes National Park is located in the state of Colorado. Colorado was admitted to the Union on August 1, 1876, the 38th state to do so.

Buyer’s will have the choice of a bag of 100 circulation quality strikes from the US Mint’s facility in Philadelphia or the US Mint’s facility in Denver.

Designer & Sculptor / Engraver

All of the America the Beautiful Coins contains a portrait of George Washington, as designed by John Flanagan, on their obverse (heads side). The first President of the United States was first featured on the 1932 circulating quarter dollar.

The reverse (tails side) of the coin will showcase a portion of the national park.
