Originally established in Colorado as a national monument in 1932, Great Sand Dunes was re-classified in 2004 as a national park after a significant portion of land was added to its boundaries following a purchase from private land-owners. The park protects the largest sand dunes found in North America which reach a height of 750 from their base in the valley.

Representing the twenty-fourth strike in the America the Beautiful Quarters Program, forty of the circulation quality strikes from the US Mint’s facility in Philadelphia will be wrapped in one roll of the set and 40 circulation quality quarters from the US Mint’s facility in Denver will be wrapped in the other.
