Fort Moultrie is located in the state of South Carolina and is operated as part of the larger Fort Sumter National Monument. Originally built to protect the port city of Charleston, South Carolina, the fort was attacked for the first time during the American Revolutionary War by British naval forces. Its new construction from soft palmetto logs had the strange effect of absorbing the impact of cannon ball fire instead of shattering from it, resulting in the fort surviving the attack. The fort also played a role in the American Civil War.

Each bag will contain 100 circulation quality strikes of the Fort Moultrie Quarter. Buyers will have the choice of whether those strikes are from the US Mint’s facility in Denver or the US Mint’s facility in Philadelphia.
