Shawnee was established in Illinois in 1939 after almost a decade of land acquisition by the United States government. Un-productive farmland was purchased and then seeded with trees to establish the forest. Today, over a quarter of a million acres comprise the forest and harbor hundreds of different species of creatures and plant-life.

The US Mint strikes the America the Beautiful Silver Bullion Coins from five ounces of .999 fine silver. Each has a massive diameter of three inches with edge lettering showing the coins weight and fineness.
