Consisting today of 265,616 restored forested acres, Shawnee National Forest was originally established in 1933. To create the forest, the federal government bought land that had been farmed out and was considered no longer productive as farmland. Then, thousands of pine trees were planted to prevent soil erosion and to help the soil rebuilt itself. Together, the pines are joined by many native hardwood species of trees to make-up the national forest.

Each set will include a total of two rolls of quarters – one containing strikes from the US Mint’s facility in Denver and one containing strikes from the US Mint’s facility in Philadelphia.
