Ellis Island is attributed with being the gateway for millions of immigrants who came to America during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. An immigration station on the island opened up in 1892 and operated there in one capacity or another until 1954. After falling into disrepair for a few decades, the National Park Service took control of the island and established a museum on the premises.

Rolls included in the set will be wrapped in special Mint wrapping. That wrapping will indicate the face value of the coins within ($10), the specific strikes contained inside (Ellis Island Quarters) and an initial indicating which minting facility produced them (P for Philadelphia or D for Denver).
