Each coin in the bag has a reverse design that showcases a portion of Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore which is located along the shores of Lake Superior in the state of Michigan. The national lakeshore was established by an Act of Congress on October 15, 1966. Extending for 42 miles, the location actually takes its name from a 15-mile section of colorful sandstone cliffs that reach as high as 200 feet above the lake level.

The America the Beautiful Quarters Program will have a total of fifty-six new strikes when it is completed in 2021. These Pictured Rocks Quarters mark the forty-first for the program.
