Established in 1966 in the state of Michigan, Pictured Rocks has the distinction of being the first national lakeshore created by the United States. It protects 42 miles of some of the most scenic shoreline in the nation with the picturesque sandstone cliffs taking up around 15 miles of that length.

The US Mint strikes each America the Beautiful Silver Bullion Coin from five ounces of .999 fine silver. Each strike in the series will contain edge incused lettering showing its weight and fineness.

2018 America the Beautiful Silver Bullion Coins

The US Mint plans to release a total of five America the Beautiful Silver Bullion Coins in 2018:

  • 2018 Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore 5 oz Silver Bullion Coin representing Michigan
  • 2018 Apostle Islands National Lakeshore 5 oz Silver Bullion Coin representing Wisconsin
  • 2018 Voyageurs National Park 5 oz Silver Bullion Coin representing Minnesota
  • 2018 Cumberland Island National Seashore 5 oz Silver Bullion Coin representing Georgia
  • 2018 Block Island National Wildlife Refuge 5 oz Silver Bullion Coin representing Rhode Island

These five coins are the forty-first through forty-fifth of the program.

Issue Information

The 2018 strikes of the America the Beautiful Silver Bullion Coin Program will mark the ninth year for the program which debuted in 2010.

Release Date

A release date for the Pictured Rocks Coin has not yet been announced by the US Mint.

Issue Price

Bullion products of the US Mint are sold by its network of authorized purchasers for a small premium above the current spot price of the precious metals contained within them.

U.S. Mint Production Facility

The special equipment required for striking the America the Beautiful Silver Bullion Coins was only installed at the US Mint’s facility in Philadelphia, however, mintmarks are not typically present on bullion coins from the Mint.

Designer & Sculptor

John Flanagan designed the portrait of George Washington (first President of the United States) that is featured on the obverse (heads side) of all of the America the Beautiful Coins. It was first featured on the circulating 1932 quarter dollar.

The reverse (tails side) of the Pictured Rocks Coin will showcase a portion of the national lakeshore.
