Found in Idaho, the Wilderness was established in 1980 and named after four-term US Senator Frank Church who was instrumental in its creation before he passed away. It preserves an area of 2,366,757 acres including a portion of the Salmon River which had been dubbed the "River of No Return" years before due to its fast flow and many rapids.

Each America the Beautiful Silver Bullion Coin is struck from five ounces of .999 fine silver to a diameter of three inches making them the largest bullion products of the US Mint. Obverse and reverse imagery of each strike will be identical to the corresponding strike of the America the Beautiful Quarters®, also issued by the Mint.
